Meet our senior team
Andrew Scott is a commercial lawyer with over 30 years’ experience in Magic Circle and international law firms, whose work for the past 15 years has included Lawtech development and implementation.
Andrew’s experience of delivering legal services on the front line at the highest level, combined with a strong entrepreneurial flair, led him to establish Mattersmith to support clients of all sizes in their handling of everyday matters in a creatively agile way. His deep understanding of contract writing, review, and management is reflected in the features of the Mattersmith Productivity Centre and Contractsmith.
After taking the top degree in his year as an undergraduate, Andrew confirmed his academic credentials with a Distinction for two years sponsored post-graduate research into software contracts, published material and teaching.
Andrew is responsible for the day to day management of Mattersmith, advice to clients, and the continued development of the Mattersmith Productivity Centre and Contractsmith.
Barry is an experienced commercial and dispute resolution lawyer who manages our Commercial NDA Service. His clients at Mattersmith are principally in the global asset management and financial services sectors.
Before moving into non-contentious commercial law a few years ago, Barry’s experience derives from tenures at provincial, national and international law firms where across a variety of client sectors he practiced dispute resolution including IP infringements; breach of confidence claims; shareholder disputes; multi party/international contract disputes and asset recoveries; enforcement law; litigious restructuring and insolvency matters; and director disqualification.
Barry is known for his sound commercial acumen; understanding a client’s focus; meeting deadlines with speed and accuracy; and calmness in a client crisis. His many years of experience handling and resolving disputes in the High Court have given him a keen eye for assessing and gauging risk.
Barry is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Legal Executives and holds a post graduate diploma in Advanced Litigation from Nottingham Trent University.
We operate a lean and agile approach to our daily work. Although we have a small team of lawyers, we work with independent counsel to meet spikes in demand and where we need specialist expertise, for instance in the case of financial services regulation, intellectual property rights and employment.
The Mattersmith Productivity Centre
Over the past five years we have invested in the development of a Lawtech platform to accelerate the delivery and support of our services. We call our platform the Mattersmith Productivity Centre.
Developed in conjunction with our IT partner, Etimologic Limited, the Productivity Centre provides a functionally rich set of tools.
providing a dashboard for the display
of management information and a
document module called Case.
a legal schema for the creation and
visualisation of know-how and contracts.
a playbook engine
for the creation of documents via
for the assisted review of documents.
An instance of the Productivity Centre is our main practice management system. The insights we gained from its development and use have inspired and informed the creation of our virtual contract assistant, Contractsmith.
The Productivity Centre and Contractsmith are hosted in a secure private cloud in the UK.
We’re always interested to hear from people who share our values and desire to transform the delivery of legal services. If you would like to be involved, please get in touch.
